The beautiful Ojai Valley is halfway between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles and is a mecca for people who love nature and seek to recharge. At the Farmer and the Cook, Steve Sprinkel grows much of the produce that is prepared in the kitchen for the all organic, vegetarian, Mexican daily menu. Olivia Chase is the cook, who with her crew finds joy in walking out to the farm fields and watching as the recipes literally create themselves. The Farmer and the Cook opened in 2001, and it has since evolved into a community hub where locals regularly gather to sample the fresh farm-to-table salad bar and a truly stunning array of baked goods. The marketplace features specialty farm products like apricot jam and chipotle lime salt among other perfectly packaged offerings, leaving diners with full bellies and overflowing shopping bags if they so desire.
